Safety Guidelines
For safe and effective operation, adhere to the subsequent safety guidelines when utilizing the Gustaf-Guard™ sawblade protector (“Device”) and associated attachments.
- Read the User Manual:
- Start by thoroughly reading the user manual and recommendations (including sawmill manufacturer’s instructions) and any provided safety documentation before using the Device.
- Proper Installation:
- Ensure that the Gustaf-Guard™ is correctly installed before operating your sawmill.
- Verify that all attachments and components are securely in place.
- If you’re uncertain, seek help at [email protected].
- Inspect Regularly:
- Periodically inspect the Gustaf-Guard™ for any signs of wear, damage, or misalignment.
- Remove any damaged Gustaf-Guard™ or parts from service immediately.
- No Modifications:
- Do not modify or alter the Gustaf-Guard™.
- Any unauthorized modifications may compromise safety.
- Operator Awareness:
- Always be aware of the Gustaf-Guard’s™ position in relation to the sawblade.
- Ensure it is in the correct operating position before engaging the saw.
- At a minimum, install Gustaf-Guard™ in the logstop position nearest the saw-head.
- For comprehensive protection , use Gustaf-Guard™ in every logstop that is installed on the saw-bed.
- Caution in Confined Spaces:
- Exercise caution when operating the sawmill in confined spaces.
- Provide adequate ventilation to the area while operating the sawmill.
- Avoid carbon-monoxide or dust inhalation.
- Be aware of the Gustaf-Guard’s™ position during log loading and unloading.
- Emergency Stop:
- Be familiar with and practice emergency stop procedures.
- Know how to quickly disengage the Gustaf-Guard™ if needed.
- Regular Training:
- Train all operators on the correct use, safety, and emergency procedures related to the sawmill and Gustaf-Guard™.
- Emphasize the importance of vigilance during operation.
- Clear Communication:
- Establish clear communication among operators when handling logs.
- Ensure everyone is aware of the Gustaf-Guard’s™ position.
- Replace Worn Parts:
- Replace any worn or damaged Gustaf-Guards™ promptly to maintain optimal performance.
- Use only genuine Gustaf-Guard™ replacement parts.
- Keep Clear of Moving Parts:
- Avoid reaching into the operating area of the sawblade to install or adjust the Gustaf-Guard™ while the sawmill is in operation.
- Wait for the sawblade to come to a complete stop before making any adjustments.
- Even when the sawblade is not moving it can be very dangerous and can cause serious injury.
- Use in Designated Conditions:
- Operate the sawmill and Gustaf-Guard™ only under appropriate conditions for safe operation.
- Do not use the sawmill in extreme weather conditions that may affect safety.
- Emergency Response:
- In case of any emergency, follow established safety protocols and shut down the sawmill immediately.
- Contact emergency services if necessary.
- Safeguarding sawmill components:
- It is advisable to attach a protective barrier on the door cover of the sawblade drive wheel to prevent any potential damage.
- Thick weatherstripping foam has proven to be effective for this application.
- Keep Away from Children and Pets:
- Store the Device and any attachments in a location inaccessible to children and pets to prevent accidents.
- Wear Appropriate Safety Gear:
- Depending on the Device, wear safety gear such as gloves, safety goggles, hearing protection, or a helmet when necessary.
- Follow Operational Instructions:
- Operate the Device according to the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations (including sawmill manufacturer’s instructions).
- Maintain Clear Work Area:
- Ensure there is a clear and well-lit workspace, free from clutter, tripping hazards, and flammable materials.
- Disconnect:
- When not in use, disconnect the Device and store in a safe location.
- Keep Hands and Body Clear:
- Keep hands, body, and clothing away from moving parts, sharp edges, or hot surfaces.
- Turn Off Before Maintenance:
- Always turn off the sawmill and disconnect the Device before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
- Regular Maintenance:
- Keep the Device clean and free of foreign material..
- Ventilation:
- Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the workspace to prevent inhalation of harmful substances.
- First Aid Kit:
- Have a well-equipped first aid kit on hand in case of minor injuries and know how to use it.
- Emergency Contacts:
- Keep emergency contact numbers, including poison control and local emergency services, readily accessible.
- Document Incidents:
- In case of accidents or malfunctions, document the incident, including photos if possible, and report it to the manufacturer.

- If you have any questions or concerns about the Device’s safety or operation, contact the manufacturer at [email protected].
- Not a Substitute or Replacement:
- The Gustaf-Guard™ Device is not designed to substitute or render any part of the sawmill obsolete. It is imperative to utilize all safety devices supplied by the sawmill manufacturer.
- Optional Storage Lanyard:
- Make certain that the optional Gustaf-Guard™ Lanyard avoids contact with the sawblade or any moving components of the sawmill.
- Do not connect the Lanyard to an installed Device while the sawmill is in operation.
- Ensure that the Lanyard does not obstruct the movement of the sawhead carriage wheels.
- Keep the Lanyard out of the reach of children or pets.
- Do not use the Lanyard for lifting, hoisting, or suspending anything other than the Device.
- The Lanyard should not be utilized as a personal safety device such as but not limited to fall protection .
